Mark Twain (1908)

Only a few American authors can surpass Mark Twain (1835 – 1910), originally known as Samuel Clemens, in terms of fame or success. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and The Prince and the Pauper are among his best-known works, but his scathing satire of the hypocrisy of his day can be found in all of his writings. Twain has been dubbed “America’s first celebrity.” He is rarely seen wearing anything other than white suits, and he graciously altered his attire for this image. According to the Los Angeles Times, this photograph taken by Alvin Langdon Coburn, was shot in 1908 and was one of the first produced full-color portraits, known as a chronograph.

Wilbur And Orville Wright (1909)

Orville (1871 – 1948) and Wilbur (1867 – 1912) Wright are best known for successfully launching the first airplane’s flight. On December 17, 1903, near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the brothers accomplished what many had been attempting for years: they successfully landed a fuelled airplane. When St. Louis Post-Dispatch interviewed Orville during the height of World War II in 1943 about the current advancements in aviation technology, he said they had developed something that would bring world peace. However, they were completely incorrect about this as they underestimated man’s potential for corruption and hatred of virtue always means evil. He added, “I don’t have any regrets about this part in the invention of the plane , though no one on this earth could deplore more than I the destruction it has caused.”
